On January 19, 2018, the Coca-Cola Company announced that it will reshape the global strategy for sustainable packaging with the goal of helping to achieve 100% equal recycling and reuse of the company's packaging by 2030.
While food and beverage packaging is an important part of modern life, reducing the environmental impact of packaging is a common issue facing the world. Recycling 100% of all packaging is a core goal of Coca-Cola's global sustainable packaging vision. The entire system of the Coca-Cola Company will make a series of investments over the years to come, including achieving 100% recyclability of packaging materials.
“The use of packaging has brought convenience to the world and challenges. All companies that use packaging, including the Coca-Cola Company, have a responsibility to find solutions.” Zhan Jiejie, President and CEO of The Coca-Cola Company, said Creating a world without waste is the vision of the Coca-Cola Company. We will continue to invest in the two major directions of environmental protection and packaging innovation, and one day the problem of packaging waste will become a thing of the past."
As a partner of the Coca-Cola Company, we will work together to focus on two main directions:
The first is an investment in environmental protection. By 2030, every time the Coca-Cola Company uses a package, it will try to recycle a similar package to recycle it. Coca-Cola will participate in packaging recycling for the entire beverage industry, including recycling beverage packaging from other companies. The brand marketing expertise will be leveraged to help the public raise awareness and knowledge of recycling. The Coca-Cola system will work with relevant government agencies, local communities, industry partners, customers, and consumers to address packaging discards and marine debris.
The second is the investment in packaging innovation. To achieve the 100% recycling target, Coca-Cola will continue to advance in the 100% recyclability of packaging materials. In order to bring more environmentally friendly beverage bottles, Coca-Cola continues to innovate and develop, such as the application of environmentally friendly recycled materials, the continuous development of plant environmental bottle technology, and the reduction of the use of plastics in packaging. By 2030, the Coca-Cola Company plans to use an average of 50% recycled materials in packaging materials. The move hopes to lead to a new global benchmark for beverage packaging. Currently, most of Coca-Cola's packaging materials are recyclable.
“Beverage packaging should not harm our planet, and a world without waste is achievable.” Zhan Kunjie said, “Companies like us must take the lead. Consumers all over the world care about our planet, this is what we are trying to do and expect companies to make a difference. At the same time, we invite other companies and institutions to participate in this important cause."
